How was it at the LeaderShe Workshop – October 12, 2023

October 23, 2023by Oana Nastase0

"I'm 51 years old and I only recently realized that I've been a man in heels for a long part of my adult life.

I have gone through 10 years of corporate management, 10 years of entrepreneurship and NGOs, 10 years of mentoring, counseling and coaching.

"My entire brilliant career has been built on masculine qualities and approaches."

This statement surprised and somewhat dismayed the ladies and the only gentleman who participated in the workshop "LeaderShe - authentic leadership of the future", on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at myhive, S-Park, in Bucharest.

We seek and often end up achieving the desired success: management position, salary increases, performance indicators, material goals met.

However, we have two aspects that I suggest you weigh more carefully:

  1. the costs and collateral losses accumulated over many years of struggle, of tension in which we used weapons that are not specific to us, or even unfavorable: constant competition and power struggles with colleagues, collaborators and even family members, harshness, directive style, imposed authority, excessive control.
  • What costs do we have as women?
  • Where are the wounds and scars visible? In work relationships? Or even in relationships? In self-esteem, in inner balance, in the ability to have a family? In fertility? In motherhood?
  1. The ability to be successful, in the complex, uncertain, tense world we live in today and most likely for many years to come.
  • What sets us apart from artificial intelligence and keeps us relevant?
  • What do the generations of young people who come after us ask of us?
  • How do they expect us to approach them?
  • How do we position ourselves among so many changes and contradictory forces?

Today's volatile and uncertain world shows us every day that female leadership, leadership positions, and success in general are ephemeral, fragile, and often measured according to social standards and social media pressures.

The attributes of future leadership overlap with traits that we, women, could easily cultivate because they are in our nature, in the baggage we came into this world with: empathy, cooperation, collaboration, inclusion, authentic, nonviolent communication.

This is where authentic, deep, valuable and meaningful inner dialogue can begin.

The 45 ladies and the only gentleman who accepted the invitation, responded to the challenge and got in on the action. We did awareness exercises with empathy, openness, lucidity and commitment.

We laughed, we cried, we listened, we understood – it was a magical evening.

Thank you to all of you who participated, who opened your minds and hearts, who had the courage to speak about vulnerabilities and sensitive situations.

Only in this way can we (re)build the solid foundation of a strong, true, self-assured, authentic woman for each of us.

Only then can we become beacons of wisdom, balance, even peace and harmony in our families and communities.

Thus, #LeaderShe becomes a necessity and a possible solution in alleviating the multiple conflicts dangerously widespread around us.

I propose working with the self, with inner alignment, to access #LeaderShe, the centered, balanced, fulfilled and radiant woman that we already are (sometimes hidden) inside.
